The next morning in Guthrie Center greeted us with a wet tent, but we were more than happy to trade a little dampness for the cooler, less muggy morning. After the scorching heat of the first couple of days, the comfortable weather was a welcome change.
With the temperatures on our side, the ride itself became much less eventful in the best possible way. The miles rolled by smoothly, the hills felt manageable, and we were finally able to stop thinking about simply surviving the heat and start enjoying the journey.
Since the ride was going so well, we even had time to stop in one of the pass-through towns and watch the RAGBRAI documentary. If you’re curious about why some people decide to use a week of their valuable vacation to pedal and camp across Iowa this may be for you. This documentary does a good job capturing the spirit of RAGBRAI and what it means to so many riders. You can watch it here:

Today was one of those days when we could simply relax, pedal down the road, and soak in everything that makes RAGBRAI special—the beautiful scenery, the welcoming small towns, the friendly conversations, and the simple joy of riding a bicycle.
And no, I didn’t try my hand at riding the bucking mechanical pig. Although I could’ve shown off the skills I learned growing up on the farm, I did not want to risk getting injured.
Lastly, here is today’s quote:
“I may not be a life coach expert, but I don’t think anyone looks back on life and says, ‘I spent too much time riding my bike.’”
Hope to see y’all down the road,
Pedal Dude
